Comments on Internal Events.

(a)

There is considerable comment on the possible introduction of Income Tax in Hong Kong. "Wah Kiu Yat Po" of Feb. 17 hopes the allowance 'free of tax' will be proportional to increase in cost of living.

(b)

"National Times" of Feb. 16 features an article charging

Hong Kong authorities with hindering education.

(Note: The cause of the article was the Education Department's refusal to sanction overcrowding or tolerate insanitary conditions in schools.)

The Shanghai newspaper "Hsin Min Pao" of Feb. 20 wishes that Luchu Islands between Formosa and Japan, to be returned to China.
